TORNESS & THORNTONLOCH

how come i havent visited these two places before? oh, yeah, because they're at the side of a nuclear power station!
nevermind the big 'brick-like' power plant, if we disregard it and look past it, we will find two little interesting spots

.
.

TORNESS

signposted to SKATERAW (from A1). shortly after leaving A1 take turn into what looks like a farm, but in fact will be a narrow road (less than 1 mile) ending with a car park (toilets open in summer only, parking free of charge). there is a small, ugly bay, somebody cared to called it a 'harbour', dunno why thou. anyway, there is a path leaving the car park (towards power station) overlooking the bay, part of john muir way, the path continues between the power station and shore (concrete pass), taking us to thorntonloch beach, passing THE most interesting wave breaker.
it's ok to explore the shore when tide out, i would in fact recommend it. some interesting fossils there!
i heard great things about 'geological stuff' in here, i wasnt disappointed at all..

what we're looking at here is in fact fossilized mud. beautifully smooth (can see the smoothness when down at the bottom of a cliff), pleasure for the eye. didnt manage to catch well it on picture :(

wiec to na co tu patrzymy to skamienialo bloto. doskonale glaciutkie (gladkosc ta widac swietnie z dolu), naprawde, przyjemnosc dla oka. niestety nie udalo mi sie tego oddac na zadnym zdjeciu

.. and the follilized mud is full of fosillized creatures, shells, corals etc
..a to skamieniale bloto jest pelne skamienialych stworzonek, muszli, korali..

coming nearer the power station, things start looking more industrial. i liked the fact that this ugly concrete block was a home to cormorants.

blizej elektrowni krajobraz robi sie nieco bardziej industrialny. podobalomi sie jednak, ze nawet taki brzydki kawal betonu moze posluzyc naturze - odpoczywaly na nim kormorany

THORTONLOCH

if you dont mind walking along the concrete passage between the car park and thorntonloch (20mins walk next to nuclear power station making funny noises) then continue east to the beach. i did mind, didnt feel very comfortable near the power station so i came back to the car park, A1 and took next left, signposted to thorntonloch. short road ended at the holiday park (park here, free of charge)

jesli nie macie nic przeciwko kreceniu sie po terenie elektrowni jadrowej to mozecie kontynuowac dalej az do plazy (20min spacer betonowym przejsciem kolo elektrowni ktora wydaje z siebie dziwne dzwieki). mi sie ta mysl zbytnio nie podobala wiec wrocilam do samochodu, spowrotem na A1 i zaraz skrecalam w lewo, do thorntonloch. krotka drozka konczy sie kolo campingu, jest tu parking, darmowy.

and again, if you disregard the vicinity of a nuclear power station, this is a nice, quiet beach :)
o znow, jesli pominac sasiedztwo z elektrownia jadrowa, plaza jest swietna, cicho i spokojnie :)

some decent waves! i guess that surfers may like it in here
przyzwoite fale, mysle ze surferzy moga lubic to miejsce

CYCLING NORTHERN HALF OF ARRAN

our first attempt to cycling outside of edinburgh really.. we were really keen, Bea picked up her new bike a night before we left to arran, i had my bike for two weeks then.
we weren't sure how much we will manage to cycle and we didn't push it too much (which we now regret, we should have tried to come back to campsite ... but it was via string road)
next time!

anyway, we started at bridge end campsite and cycled northern part of arran, to brodick.
below is a short description:
1. bridge end to blackwaterfoot - down the hill
2. blackwaterfoot to tormore- up and down, i remember two biggish hills
3. tormore to imachar - flat :) along the sea shore, very nice
4. imachar to lochranza - 12% hill to imachar, then relatively flat, some small 'ups', really nice
5. lochranza to sannox - just past lochranza is a big hill and it drags for a couple of miles, but as soon as you reach the 'summit' (near small bridge) that's you done, it is down the hill to sannox and further to brodick
6. sannox to brodick - down the hill or flat, easy ride and very enjoyable

.

.

pierwszy raz zabieramy rowery poza edynburg iobie bylysmy bardzo 'napalone' na ten wyjazd... bea odebrala swoj nowy rower dzien przed wyjazdem, ja mialam moj juz od 2 tygodni..
nie bylysmy pewne ile uda nam sie przejechac i nie czulysmy jakiejs wielkiej presji (a szkoda, bo powinnysmy byly jeszcze sprobowac dojechac do kampingu, przez string road) , coz, nastepnym razem :)

zaczelysmy od kampingu w bridge end i objechalysmy polnocna czesc arranu az do brodick
krotkie info:
1. bridge end do blackwaterfoot - z gorki
2. blackwaterfoot do tormore -roznie, pamietam ze byly dwie 'wieksze' gorki
3. tormore do imachar -plasko, wzdloz wybrzeza, fajnie
6. sannox do brodick- najpierw z gorki a potem plasko, latwo i milo :)

ST.MONANS & ELIE revisited

actually two visits to st monans and one to elie :)
st monans which seems to be a great place to dig deep into scotland's geological past, as well as to experiment with long exposure times
and anyway, i wanted to have some 'proper' photos of that pier too

.
.
w sumie to dwie wizyty do st monans i jedna do elie
st monans okazuje sie swietnym miejscem do odkrywania geologicznej przeszlosci szkocji jak rowniez swietnym miejscem do eksperymentow z dlugim czasem naswietlana..
no i poza tym to tez chcialam miec takie fajne zdjecia tego falochronu

my best shot at the pier

what about this? fossilized worms?
