CRAMOND & RIVER ALMOND WALKWAY

 river almond walkway @ cramond

the walk can be started either from cramond brig pub at the quensferry road or from the cramond village car park at the cramond promenade.

river almond meets the sea at cramond village, the walk along the river is about 1.5 -2 miles long. the whole way the path is well defined and sheltered by trees -  great for rainy or windy days out.

from cramond village walk south to the old mill (now café - great cakes!), pass the cascade and soon you'll reach the stairs. walk up and soon you'll be going down to the river level again (this is to avoid a dangerous cliff at the river).

soon you'll find yourself briefly entering the estate and reach cramond brig with enclosure for ponies nearby!

walk time about 1.5-2hrs return

z wioski cramond podazaj wzdloz rzeki do przystani z lodziami, potem mojajac stary plyn (teraz kafejna - swietne ciastka!). dalej miniesz kaskade I dotrzesz do schodow. nie sa wysokie, a omijaja niebezpieczny klif nad rzeka. wkrotce bedzie zejscie na dol, do poziomu rzeki. za kilkanascie minut dotrzesz na otwarta przestrzen przy kamiennym mostku (cramond brig), tutaj znajduje sie takze zagroda z kucykami!

ARCTIC TERN - ISLE OF MAY

po polsku chyba 'rybitwa'. maly krzykliwy morski ptak, gniazdujacy w trawie I agresywnie broniacy swojego terytorium I malych. atakuje przechodnow calym stadem, atakuje najwyzszy punkt - czyli glowe, ale nie jest niebezpieczny. jak sobie z nimi radzic? nie panikowac, nie machac rekami, jedynie wystawic reke wysoko ponad glowe. mie machac, bo krzywda jaka one moge nam potencjalnie wyrzadzic jest znikoma (zadrapanie) a my machaniem mozeny je powaznie uszkodzic.

na isle of may upodobaly sobie tereny zaraz przy przystani wiec wysiadajac na wyspe pierwsze co to natykasz sie na tych malych krzykaczy. to jak chrzest w ogniu.

small, loud seabird, nesting on the ground and aggressively defending the territory and youngs. it attacks in a large group, attacks the highest point of a trespasser - goes straight for your head. how to deal with them? stick your hand high above your head and don't panic :) they will not touch you, just try to scare you off. don't waive your hand, you can seriously damage them whereas even if they go for it and decide to come in contact with you, the worst you can experience will be some small scrapes.

in Iceland they were equally aggressive

on isle of may, arctic terns chose nesting grounds just next to the small harbour, so first thing after leaving the boat you are surrounded by the group of small aggressive birds. baptism in fire indeed.

GUILLEMOTS - isle of may's common murre

pomimo ze sa dosc niepozorne, to wlasnie one rzadza wyspa may, sa ich tam tysiace. moze nie tak piekne jak maskonury I nie tak glosne jak rybitwy, nurzyki zasluguja na nieco uwagi. sa piekne I dostojne! w dodatku niezbyt plochliwe :)

although they seem to bring less excitement than puffins or arctic terns, they truly rule isle of may. live there by thousands, quiet, elegant, not timid... beautiful!
